FAQs
Answers to some common questions.....
What happens if my dog runs out of the ring during my routine?
If your dog leaves the ring and stops working, you will be eliminated from the competition. But if you can get him back, you are allowed to continue and complete your routine, as long as the music is still playing. You can continue using a toy or just playing with your dog if this will help you. If a dog accidentally steps outside the ring during a routine it will not be penalised.
Can I do a training round?
You can use a toy or train in the ring for the duration of your music. No form of harsh handling is allowed. Remember that training doesn’t have to be just doing your routine. Let the judges know that you are going to do a training round, and they will be sympathetic.
What if the DJ starts to play the wrong track?
If your music is wrong, or you can’t hear it, just stop and indicate clearly to the judges that there is a problem. Once it has been sorted out, you will be able to start your routine again.
Will I be able to work if I miss my running order?
Heelwork to Music shows are run on a very tight timetable. It is your responsibility to be ready to work on time, and if you miss your running order, you will not be able to compete.
What if I forget my routine in the ring?
No-one else knows what you intended to do, so the important thing is just to keep going.
Both my dog and me are new to this sport and very nervous, which class to you suggest I try first?
Try out a Fun Class first and get the dog used to being in the ring and keep his attention and the fun factor by using a toy. In some Fun Classes you are also allowed to use food.
What do I need to do if I want to bring my other dogs along who are not entered in the competition?
Complete an entry form but state that the entry is “NFC”. You can find more details about how to do this here
